Yea, thanks for the answers, the reason I was even asking about lnd/scr/rnd layers is because I thought I cannot put random or land group/unit in single normal multiplayer or single player mission. But based on what I read so far it seems we are allowed to put them all together in 1 normal multi/single mission correct?
And you right, modifying campaign files is a big no no, because if you ever do that and host a multiplayer game everyone else will crash.
Further, I wanted to know do normal single/multi missions always use all campaign layers to populate area based on year/date or is there way to force the single/multi mission not to use campaign data at all? |

SO far as I can tell the single missions do not use campaign data at all unless you perform a MERGE and then save your single mission with layer data.
Here is an image from SCR layer adding June 6 , 1944 and afterward invasion activity..

I believe single missions do use campaign data, here is the reason:
Single player mission that came with the game called Scapa Flow does not have anything in the script except date, objectives and starting point of the player's submarine.
It actually uses the fact there is a battleship in scape flow at that specific date in campaign along with destroyer's escort. |

When you load a single mission (in the game, not the ME), I believe the campaign layers are automatically merged with the mission.
The only way I know around this is to duplicate the campaign layers, delete the info inside and replace the default files with the empty ones.
I already did this a couple of weeks ago. It certainly makes testing a lot easier, as everything loads about twice as fast.
Of course, in order to play the campaign, you need to put the default files back in place.

Plus, that wouldn't work with multiplayer unless all the clients also had same blank campaign layers. The main reason I was wondering whether there is an option for a script not to use campaign data is for multiplayer mission. Currently, if you want to make a mission let's say in scapa flow in october 1939 you had to worry about 6 destroyers and 1 battheship already there, and you cannot remove them unless you mess with campaign data which would mess up multiplayer setup. |

I'm not so sure about your MP statements. I hosted some missions on UBI several days ago and all went well. I was using my blank campaign files.
The only thing I can add is that I was running one of my own missions, not one of the default MP misions.

I have tried using customized campaign files along with custom mission. I have made multiplayer mission in scapa flow in october 10 and removed all destroyers present in campaign layers during that time, then proceeded to make my multi mission. However, all 4 clients would crash trying to load the mission. When i would use default campaign files with the same mission, the clients would stay and be able to play... Of course that was tested back in 1.1. I havent tried this in 1.2 |
