Does anyone know about British Naval formations? If a squadron of 4 or 5 light cruisers were to sail into a combat situation, what kind of formation would they use? |

Depends on the situation. For ease of getting from point A to point B it be Line Astern. To do a sweep it be a Wedge formation. To close and engage an enemy it be line abreast. Now the thing is, in SH3 there is now way to change a TF or Convoy formation on the fly. Once you have chosen the TF/Convoy formation you want its stuck that way untill its either, A) all ships are sunk, B) reaches the last waypoint and is deleted.
Now if a Cruiser Group was to close and engage an enemy it would do so line abreast untill , A) Taget sunk, B) Torpedo range is achieved (then they would turn to either Port or Starbourd and form line astern and fire torps as they came to bare, whislt giving it every gun they had), C) endevour to surround the target to devied its fire power.
But since Cruiser Groups were rare (Maruder Groups were more common - 1 Curiser with 1 Flt of Fleet Class DD's in escort) I'd try to make it so that as many of the cruisers were able to engage all at the same time to maximize their impact. |
