I have just completed my 6th patrol in my first career and yet again I have over 60000 tons sunk and yet again I was only detected a handful of times, only attacked by airplanes twice and never (!) depth charged. This time I even sailed into Scapa Flow and sunk a moored cruiser and 4 other warships in the bay and escaped undetected and unharmed. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, but this seems a tad bit unrealistic.

It's summer of '41 and I'm still finding tons of unprotected cargo ships and tankers and in the rare event of finding a convoy, they're usually only escorted by 0-2 destroyers. While I am not playing on full realism (I'm not relly good enough for manual targeting yet) I would like the patrols to be a bit more challenging in the way of encountering more competent warship captains and convoys that are actually a challenge to attack. ( maybe this will start to happen more as '41 draws to a close ??? )

I am currently playing the stock version of the game so I was wondering which mods would be good to go with if I want to spice things up a bit. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Very Happy

I cannot overstate how much better the game is in every respect when you have Grey Wolves 1.1 on it.

do you run GW with any other mods or just by itself?

Also, are stock careers compatible with GW or will I have to start a new one?

thanks Very Happy

I would use RealUboat 1.45, and the Hollywood Damage and Crew Model, and the NYGM Tonnage War.

Agreed, especially in this case since it includes the latest Convoy and Harbour Traffic mods, the latter of which will give you many many escorts guarding all the major harbors and naval bases. Good luck with THAT!

Hi Kpt Lehmann. I am not getting any merchant traffic running SH3 and I am on my 23 patrol (Aug 31,1941). My earlier patrols were great but SH3 crashed several timed and I had to do fresh installs each time. Now I am not coming across any enemy merchants. Also I cannot get my gramophone to play any music, all I get is scratching noice. Will installing GW fix my problems when I get back into port? Robert

Rob, if you have problems, installing new mod is not a very good idea. Have you cheked your gram. file to be sure there is something in it?

It's hard to believe there is not traffic at all. Why you don't just get your boat near one enemy harbour? Maybe tommy is surrendered and war is over? Wink

Well, I just finished my 23 patrol. I was informed by BdU that a large enemy convoy was in the next grid, so I was finished my patrol requirements in my required grid so I went over there after it. It was night and the weather turned really bad; heavy rain, heavy fog, winds; man my ol' 70 yo heart was just a punpin' The weather was so bad that the merchants got too close to me because I was too busy avoiding the destroyers. I got a Clemson in my sights 450 m away and I sunk her and the other destroyers came after me. I sustained some deck damage, but managed to zig-zag around the depth charges and snuck away and made it home, WOW. I would like more of those, Real challenging. But I missed sinking some merchants. Maybe next time. Is there a mod that will give me the month's news like SH3 Commander does? Robert.
