Hello I am new to Silent Hunter II and have recently finished the game using auto targeting mode to accomplish objectives. I am currently attempting the game in manual tdc mode I would be grateful if some helpful person would tell me how to go about this in the CORRECT fashion as the game manual is very brief. I am playing the game without limited target data option dud torpedoes etc. and have worked out how to set this information by reading it off the information the game supplies, have worked out how to set AOB Speed and Distance but require help with how to set the heading of the enemy vessel. So far I have been successful in destroying some ships but only by cheating, using the auto target just to look at the heading. In a nutshell my question is 'what is the mathematical method for finding the heading' I'm sure a lot more people than me who are somewhat math challenged have had this same problem?

Cheers

Go to the Downloads section on the front page of this site. Click on SH2, scroll down to Weapons Officer v3.3. D/l this. It is an excel spreadsheet that works out the solution based on your observations. You need to alt-tab out of the game to input the information. Hope this helps if you have any other questions you can PM me.

Cheers for that but now i have a new problem how do you use the WO it obviously works and it' me who is doing the wrong thing. Had a look at the read me first and played around with it for half an hour but i couldn't quite be satisfied with how to use it. I entered the information in accurately because i scored some hits but when it came to entering the time I noticed although it said HH:MM:SS in the top box the field you enter it in has 0:00:00 am i entering in the correct info here by entering the mission time or am i doing something wrong? In other words I can get the bearing distance etc. but not the speed. Will continue to play around with it some more in the meantime...

Are you speaking of sh2  ? there are no WO in sh2 unless that's how you call auto-tdc. Also there is no interface to estimate speed in sh2 (maps/pins maybe) while there is one in sh3. I think you've got the games mixed up Wink

I don't have the games mixed up mate there is a tool called weapons officer (WO) available for download at this website. I am putting out a call for anyone who has used this to help me out with how it works as the read me included doesn't do this application justice.

Wooops, the WO links from the previous post escaped me, sorry dude  . I return to my shore leave now

PS : didn't use the WO so can't help - in fact I eyeball most of the TDC settings which forces you to come closer and closer to avoid wide miss.

Good luck.

PS2 : there are a lot of Targeting posts on the sh3 forum as well so you can use the search engine to find them.
