When could I realistically raise my masts on a sub without detection...at what distance? I realise AI doesn't detect masts  but, I consider this an exploit (so I'm not going to use it). So at what approximate distance from an enemy surface platform should I not raise my mast? |

Tough to say.
Rather than approach the issue in that way, I would focus on using the masts as a skipper would in real life.
That is, only raise the masts for short periods of time to accomplish something specific. |

I would give that advice for another reason as well - if you do otherwise, you easily forget you had a mast up, and break it. |

Watch ESM. The higher the signal strength, the greater the risk.
Speed, sae state, and distance from other contacts matter too, but I can't really get into anything specific. The advice above is good for the game (even though we tend to always have the scope up)...lower any masts you're not using. |

Also time the scope has been up and type - ie search more detectable than attack |
