no, i'm not asking for money... well, not yet anyways Joking but i do need some opinions on one aspect of the 3DRAD code that is causing me big time issues here... may signal the end for this thing in RAD...

if you have time, please try out this lil demo... ignore the startup screen, and also, the textures and meshes do not represent what will be in the final...

get it here --> http://home.att.net/~subbase1/3DRADSubDemo.zip

it should run on a 733mHz with at least a radeon 9200 or equivilant... the default res is 1024x768x32, so edit the config.ini if you need 8x6...

it's about 7MB... and it is in a rough stage of development, so you will have to follow the instructions below to be able to get the sub moving, diving, and for you to move around in as well...

you should see the problem i can't overcome after a few dives... ok, type this out, or write it down... or you will get lost Yep

unzip and run the app as usual... once it starts you will be in the control room of the sub...

1-immediately press the V, M, F, and 0 (zero) keys in sequence this will clear out the fog in the scene and get the sub moving...

2- you can now go to external view by pressing H, and return by pressing G

3- ok, to dive press F10 followed by the UP ARROW key

wait a while as the sub descends... you can use the G and H keys to toggle between internal and external views at this time, but i need you to be inside the sub on this dive to see any jerking as the sub starts under...

4- once you are underwater press F9, followed by the INSERT key, the PAGEUP key, and then the DOWN ARROW...

wait a while for the sub to level off and start taking an up angle to surface...

5- wait until you are all the way on the surface, then press F9 to close the vents and DELETE and PAGE DOWN to stop the blow... this will keep you on the surface

now use the W,A,S,D keys with the mouse, to move about the sub... go to a location forward of or aft of the control room... then turn around and look forward...

now dive the sub again as outlined in steps 3, 4, and 5...and follow the same procedures to submerge and re surface... all the time noting for any jerking as you start under or reach the surface...

lemme know what you get... i find that as you move around from the center of the sub, the thing jerks around a lot... and i can't seem to stop this...

after you're done, you can play around, and may want to go to the brdge when the sub is on the surface... just face the ladder move close to it, and press F1... the same for the conning tower ladder... this should put you on the bridge...

press P to engage the diesels

LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW turn...

sorry about the maze of controls... in the final these will actually be instruments and wheels you can click to do these tasks, but right now, i really need to get some opinions of the jerking issue...

THANKS BIG TIME for helping with this...

No jerkyness, but mouse very sensitive.

Also couldn't get it to dive no matter what, did F10 then up arrow.

Nothing happened.

sorry Xabbarus for putting it up this way... i just ripped it straight from some code i was working on... the instructions should get the sub moving and diving, but you've got to follow them precisely at this point...

V is for the external environment, clears up the fog and some other stuff...
M puts the electric motors online
F shifts into forward gear
5, 6,7,8,9,0 are the power settings dead slow to flank
F10 opens the vents...
UP ARROW point the planes down
F9 shuts the vents
INSERT blows negative ballast
HOME points the planes level
INSERT blows main ballast
DELETE stops Negative Blow
PAGE DOWN stops main blow

H goes to external view
G returns inside the sub

WASD + mouse to walk and turn

ok... get power to the motors, put er in fwd gear, and give it some power... V,M,F,0 key sequence should get you going

to dive, F10 opens the vents and UP ARROW points the planes down... she'll start diving in a few seconds once the ballast tanks fill..

level off at depth, close the vents, and blow negative F9, UP ARROW, and INSERT keys should do that (you'll have to peek outside to see if you are level H key... G key to return inside...

now you are level at nuetral trim... DOWN ARROW and PAGE UP to surface... and wait...

close the vents and stop the blow with F9, DEL PG DN...

walk around the sub... look at ladder (it's a lil off so look a lil fwd of the ladder) then press F1 to climb...

P starts up the diesels O shuts em down (right now they'll run anytime, even underwater)

LEFT and RIGHT ARROW turns the rudder...

1 and 2 keys sets red and white lighting in the sub as well as sets the env time...

try it again, ok... you should have a lil fun with it Smile

after i get a few reports i'll show something i'm working on with a game engine i'm just about finished writing, in another programming language... i may have to use this instead of RAD at this late date...

Letum... thanks for taking the time to look at it and post some feedback... more and a lot better to come...

...soon Thumbs Up

there sure are Very Happy

in the meantime... seeing as you asked so nicely Rotfl Rotfl Rotfl

... could you also take a look at this and tell me how it runs on your system, and if there are any problems.

not really part of the sim, it's based on an engine i put together in Blitz3D... i may have to use it for the sim now that i'm having these problems in RAD.

---> http://home.att.net/~mikey102/OOPBlitzDemo.zip

keys are
WASD to move around...
R to reset the boxes
F to dump the bouyancy of the boxes
V to regain the bouyancy of the boxes

thx again...

Absolutely great Mike, no problems on my system, no jerkiness whatsoever. The blitz demo also worked fine, very nice.

My system specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Nvidia 6600GT WinXP Home 1GB ram

I'll try and run it on my older system too (once I reconnect it all).

Can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks
Stephen

It sounds like Deamon's issue is that if this demo is memory intensive, his 256mb of SDRAM might be too little...granted, that's w/o knowing his Operating System.
