I wonder if this book mentions the stories that the Scorpion was torpedoed and sunk by a Soviet sub while shadowing a Soviet naval exercise.
I heard those stories while in the Navy myself, and supposedly there is a sunken Soviet sub about a mile away from the Scorpion on the bottom, which was sunk by counterfire from the Scorpion, and which would explain why one of the Scorpion's torpedo tubes is open and empty.
Another part of the story is that this has been an ongoing coverup by the US government ever since. Of course if any of this were true, we'd never know (until perhaps many years from now).
Does make for a good "Conspiracy Theory" though.. |

I have just finished reading this book.It is well written but the author never comes up with a definitive reason for the loss. |
