In AOD, escorts continuously conducted active searches.

In SH1, escorts seemed to only go active when they suspect your presence unless they are conducting a barrier defense (port).

In both AOD and SH1, there was a distinctive change in the ping sound like a "clang" when they had you.

In SH2/PA, I understand that if you use PM 1.03 that you will not hear continuous pings. Anyway, some questions:

(1) Are escorts always in active search mode or only when they suspect a sub?

(2) Is there anyway to know when they have you with their sonar? Is that what the single ping you hear with PM 1.03 means?

By the way, what INI sensitivity values do folks use? Is it the PA 0.7 default?

1) Yes, they are always searching with active, except when the mission is scripted specifically for sensor to be inactive until the first attack. I do not know of any mission scripted like that, but could be some out there

2) None that I'm aware of. But normally, if the DD is running towards you at fast speed, it is because he did get you. At least with passive. Once he is close enough, he will also get you with active as long as you are inside the cone
