Just started building the Trumpeter 1/144 Seawolf model and am stuck on exactly what colors to use. Most models I've seen have the lower hull red, which I don't believe is accurate. At least not from actual photos I've seen. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The primary areas I'm concerned with are the following:
1) Hull- There are two tones of black here. A semi gloss for the main hull and a flat black for the non-skid portion topside. Considering the vast number of different blacks out there this is probably the most confusing choice for me.
2) The prop- I'm thinking some type of gun metal but didn't know if the real thing is actually brass colored. Since it's one of those "classified" items I can't find any photo references.
All suggestions are appreciated! |

I think that lower hull is gray, as in Texas. Other possible color is greenish black.. I'll make my Seawolf lower hull grey. |

The Texas is a Virginia class sub and I've seen those photos. Every photo I've seen of a Seawolf class sub has the entire sub one color. Basic black with the sonar dome slightly duller. Hopefully someone will produce a 1/144 scale Virginia class sub soon! |

its black mate the only people who paint the bottom of the subs red are the russians and ive only seen them paint the kilos hull red so i doubt the seawolf is red

I've seen pictures of the 688 and Ohio class painted red on the bottom. |

Not true friend, I served on 688 and Ohio class subs, and every one of them had red anti-fouling paint below the waterline. Same for 594, 637 and 640 class boats I've seen in drydock. Now, I've been out of the service over 7 years, and haven't seen any of the new boats, so they could very well be using a different color paint... |
