*BUMP*
Definitely a sticky thread
[Edit]
THOSE OF YOU WITH MODS CREATED (BEERY, ETC.)
If you could add any information on what your mod does to the wiki at the below URL, we would all be very grateful. It will allow us to collect URLs for downloading the various mods, their effects, and their authors in a centralized way, rather than searching the forum for them.

Yes, my clients in Amsterdam (and Ghent), all of whom are wonderful people, were looking forward to their four-day weekend.
Enjoy... :sunny: |

Thanks mr chris!
I would, however, like to point out that most of the credit goes to the members of the community!
In particular, Ozzage has a ton of edits and content to his credit, and SaintD did a great page on Intercepting Targets
Thank these guys!

My pleasure :)
I love the idea of a wiki.
For others who want to get involved (warning, it can be addictive) then we've just started using page:
http://www.communitymanuals.com/shiii/index.php?title=SilentHunterIII:Community_Portal
to maintain a list of things that need doing. Of course, any page can be edited or added to if you think it needs it!
You can also add to the page linked above if you think of new pages that would be useful. |

"We've been spotted, ma'am!"
After much lurking, I think it's time I joined the Subsim forums.
This is my first post here. For starters, I'll simply repeat (mildly edited) what I posted yesterday on this Ubi SH3 forum thread:
Quote: | I was about to release an early rendition of The Avon Lady's SH3 FAQ.
However, since this has already been begun, and it allows for multiple independent contributors, I'll drop my own FAQ and try to help on this one.
I've already added a FAQ item on loading external torpedoes.
I think anyone who can should promote this in their forum signature. I've just added the following forum code to the bottom of my sig:
Code: |
Before you ask, have you searched for the answer in the SH3 Community Manual & FAQ? Feel free to contribute, too! |
From now on, a question already answered in the manual should be answered by telling people to look it up. The amount of duplicate threads here is unbelievable!
Moderators, this thread should be made a sticky in all 3 SH3 subforums here. In the not too long run, it will cut down on redundent posts.
I also think the title of this thread should be changed to "SH3 Community Manual & FAQ" or simply the "SH3 FAQ" (see added comments at end of post). That will attract people with questions or problems.
I also think it's important that someone create a graphic button or banner for us to add to our sigs that can be clicked on to link to this.
I'm not graphics talented at all but maybe this will give someone with the skills food for thought:
|
Since posting that yesterday, I placed a few contributions in the Wiki.
Right now, I have some other suggestions:
1. Require logging in to update the material. Just imagine some vicious darling of a child going in and deleting everything. After all, who needs to hack here!
2. Decide. If it's a manual, remove the FAQ section and incorporate anything there (very little right now) into the appropriate sections. If it's a FAQ, then organize it accordingly in a sectioned Q & A structure.
My preference from personal experience is a FAQ. It's much easier to find to-the-point questions and answers that way and it's just as easy to dig up a 20 page tutorial on a given subject. |

Avon Lady,
Thanks for your help! It's great to see so many people taking an interest in this project.

The wiki keeps a history of every page. If a page is vandalized, it's a simple matter for the next person in to revert the changes to the most recent valid version. On a major wiki, like Wikipedia, vandalism tends to get reverted in about 5 minutes

My preference (and my original intention) was a for this to be a manual, but, well, it's a wiki, so I'll let the community decide. A good compromise might be to have the FAQ section in which the questions link to various parts of the manual. |
