As previously mentioned, the increased forum traffic generated by the popularity of SH3 and the growing collection of downloads brought the server to capacity earlier this week. The datacenter is staging an additional server to host the downloads and we expect that to be online shortly. Once it is running, Downloads will resume normally. Thanks for your patience.

Subsim Downloads will be back online shortly. We have a new server scheduled to go online today. The datacenter is prepping a Pentium4 2.4 GHz machine with 1 GB RAM and twin 80GB Hard Drives, good for a total monthly transfer 1400 GB. |

Technical problems with the NIC drivers and other mysterious computer stuff have driven the sysadmin back into his cave. We will attempt tp coax him out to complete the upgrade tomorrow. |

Neal - What's your typical monthly transfer? |

hi Bill,
Before Feb 2005, we averaged around 500 GB a month
Mar 2005: 800 GB
Apr 2005: 1160 through the 22nd :dead:
Hard to imagine, I know. But the traffic growth is also visible in the number of new members joining the Subsim forums:
2774 new forum members since Jan 1, 2005
2153 just since March 17th (SH3 release)
Since we brought the new Downloads server online this morning:
Server uptime: 6 hours 21 minutes 51 seconds
Total accesses: 415737 - Total Traffic: 3.7 GB
18.1 requests/sec - 168.5 kB/second - 9.3 kB/request
3.7 * 3.8 * 31 = 436 GB a month; that will easily double since the SH3 downloads have been offline for the last 4 days and I imagine players are just beginning to frequent that section again since the new server came up.
Subsim Review is growing again |

Neal -
I'm seeing a similar trend at my site, tho on a much smaller scale
That's one reason why I haven't opened a SHIII section -- I don't think I could afford the bandwidth. |

If Hitman and Seadler had not made Pacific Aces, I would be in sorry shape right now. Thankfully, PA built up the war chest so I can run in the red for a while. |
