it's from the Revell ad on the SH3 site for the model U47...

http://www.silent-hunteriii.com/de/revell/u-47_guenther_prien_big.jpg

this is really kinda neat... although i think that some of the interior has been left out...

this is an example the interior i'd like to be aboard in a sub sim Yep

Yes, the interior doesn't look so good - not very realistic at all.

Funny story - last October, on my birthday a friend called round He was looking in a modelling catalogue and saw the Revell U-47 in there, and pointed it out. I'm not a modeller, but it looked interesting. We talked about it for a while, and then my father arrived with a present for me. The present was the Revell U-47. One of those weird coincidences ...

One day, I'll pluck up the courage to build the thing. I've a lot to learn - I've not made any models since I was a kid.

Yes, no bunks, no galley, no heads - not exactly ideal conditions for life at sea. Rolling Eyes

I'm thinking of building it without bothering with the interior, and displaying it with the cut-out next to the wall.

I have that model, I build it around 10 years ago...I spent more money on it making it more accurate, than the model cost. Smug

Other than the realism of the interior, how would you rate this model? Any tips?

I think they used the same mold as the U-99 model, other than the conning tower. I have a modeler's magazine where they built this model. I'm in the process of getting a new digital camera, I could take some pictures if you like.

It's not too hard to build. Pre-fit the parts before you glue them!

Get a good pair of tweezers for the crew.

Hope this helps Very Happy

I remember this model. I assembled it about 1980 or 81 when I was 9ish. I had a wall in my room that had 4 shelves on it that were about 8 or 9 feet long and 5 or 6 inches wide with a large variety of warship models including this one. I remember being really bummed that different model companies didn't make their products to the same scale. Even with the limited knowledge I had of u-boats then, I knew the interior was not an accurate representation of a type VII based on some history books I had. The only two other sub models I was able to find at the time were the USS Growler and I can't remember the name of the other one but it was a poseidon or polaris SSBN that had one side of the hull cut away to view the interior as well.
