Finally picked up a copy of Hell In The Pacific on DVD. 1968, Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mifune, directed by John Boorman.

Two great actors, one great movie. I think I've mentioned it before in another thread, but I haven't actually watched it in, oh, thirty years. Still one of the best. :sunny:

Oh, and the DVD includes the original ending they wanted, but didn't make it to the screen.

What was the ending they wanted? One reason I didn't care for the movie was the ending, so I'd like to know what it was supposed to be.

The last scene is longer. They both finish putting on the new clothes, give each other a sad, regretful look, and then go their separate ways. Sad, but not stupid like the tacked-on theatrical ending.

That is better than the one they actually used. Even makes more sense.
