I am taking this subject from the other thread and giving it a topic for itself.

The fact is that 2 of the screenshots in the German preview thread have the little red stupid idiot triangle target maker in them. Damn Damn Damn Damn Damn Damn Damn Damn This was one of the things that we hated about SH-2 and people went to great lengths to try to ger rid of but never did. Now the DEV team says that they listened to us so I hope that they are listening now.  THIS IS A DEAL BREAKER!  This would be the final straw to me that they didn't listen. Please tell me that the marker is ONLY on easy/stupid a.s.s mode.

NEAL!!! You played with a preview. Well....whats the skinny? Can we remove this triangle or not....or do you not know? Stare Stare

The only red triangle I've seen is the marker for the player's sub when using the external view. I didn't have a problem with that, since using the external view is optional. I did not see any targeting marks like the red triangle in SH2 or the red + in Aces of the Deep.

How about posting the url to the screens you are referring to? I can't compare if I don't know where the are.

they're talking about the 6 new screenshots in the German software review article mentioned on this forum.

The little red marker in the two persicope views is not a targeting thing. Look closer - it is the pointer on the depth guage to the right of the periscope.

Relax.

Actually it isn`t. Have a look at the following pic just to the left of the mouse cursor you can see a very light red trinagle:

That may be a realsim option, don't jump ship yet. I am getting a January build for final preview next week. I'll let you know.

Notice in this screen in the right upper corner the switch "casual targeting" is set to off. In the screen of the german version, the switch "Einfaches Zielen" is set on.

I hope this triangle relates to this setting.

From my understanding, when you go to the Ship Recognition Manual, say from the periscope view, don't you have the opportunity to pinpoint a
target area that you want to aim the torpedo? For instance, your aiming for the Boiler Room, maybe that is when the Red Triangle makes it's appearance.. Just a thought... -Nightowl

How would they go about designating that you have selected a particular ship in your view as the target? They'd need some other form of doing this if not by the triangle method. Let's say there are two or three ships in the periscope and I want to mark one as my target; how would be a better way to do that? I'm not being a smart-a**, just wondering what other ways might work. I didn't mind the triangle in SH1/2, but I know there are people adamantly against it and wonder what would you prefer in its place.
