I was tracking a "FALSE CONTACT" in an Akula earlier and ended up finding out I had been looking at a Sea Wolf.

Very interesting.

Is this something the real Seal Wolf is speculated/known to have? If so, how does the techology work?

It wasn't a Seawolf pretending to be a False Contact I think you just miss-identified it as one. FC sounds a little like submarines- but it takes an experienced player to see what’s what.

What causes false contacts in real life? In the game, are they objects placed in the scenario editor or dynamic things within the game?

In the game they are objects located under Submarines>Civilian in the mission editor's selection of platforms.

I'm not sure what causes them in real life but I guess I could be seismic stuff in the earth’s crust, or things floating in the water, or sounds bouncing in from a distant CZ. Could some real life Sonarman shed some light on this?
