Just as addictive as I remember it as a teenager. It's 3am and I've just finished playing. My wife is not amused - especially when she walked in and saw me dancing with a well endowed young lady - virtually of course.
This should fill in the time nicely until DW and SH3

Couldn't agree more! Just finished up my review of it for a Swedish website (www.level7.nu) and awarded it a 9/10. One of the best games of 2004 for me. |

Yea, this game is sucking hours of time since I got it, and it's hard to tear yourself away... Just one more city to visit before bed... ok just one more dance before bed...ok just one more buried treasure before bed...
Sid has completely captured the spirit of his original creation, a remarkable feat. There's a few AI issues that hopefully will get fixed, but out of the box the game is a complete joy to play.
Now, just one more voyage before bed... |

I agree, Pirates is awesome. Looks good and plays good. I've finally gotten the dancing down, and ended up married as a result-lol.
I use the keyboard (keypad) only. I started using the mouse, but that didn't work at all. The keypad is key. I keep the first 3 fingers of my right hand on the 4, 5 and 6 keys. Watch your partner carefully. She will let you know what is coming up next. I've found that the dances seem to repeat, and you will eventually start to know them by instinct (kinda scary).
Very fun game.

ships to be plundered. I like the gold coin booty much better....

Yup, I was up until 2am. Glad it kept the same game play as the original. Now if we can just get Mr. Meier to bring back some of the other great Mircroprose games like Silent Service, Taskforce 1942, Pacific Air War, Gunship and M1 Tank Platoon I'll be a very happy man...until my wife gets really sick of me be'n in front of the computer for hours at a time.
...Red Storm Rising was one of the best too. |

Just got it and evidentally I need more practice at swordplay. Not used to the keypad - the old atari joystick hooked up to the C64 was more my style. I'm gonna have to learn fast. |

I use the mouse for swordplay, the keypad only for dancing --lol-- and town infiltrations. |

Well, this is my first ever visit to the Sailing Ship Board. Why? Because I was at a friend's house today and noticed he had the new version of Pirates. Three hours later I finally tore myself away. I used to play the original on my Atari 520ST...I have GOT to come up with some money for this one! Great Redo! |

Boy, I caught on to the sword fighting and dancing fairly quickly. The balanced swords and fluffy shirt always helps too. Now I gotta move on to a more difficult level. |
