im thinkin about buying ap pc from an UK online site called gladiator computers.
AMD 64Bit 2800+ Processor
400 Watt Midi Tower ATX Case
512MB PC3200 DDR Memory
Powerful AMD motherboard
ATi Radeon 9550 256MB DDR Graphics Card
6 Channel Surround Sound
56K Modem and 10/100 Network Card
16x DVD±RW DVD Writer (Dual Layer)
160GB Hard Drive (7200RPM)
1.44MB Floppy Drive
Scroll Mouse, Keyboard and Speakers
at 550 it seems reasonable but how reliable are buying pc's online. ive heard some horror stories about people getting ripped off.
and how reliable are amd processors? |

The ATI 9550 is performance-related on the level of a low-power Radeon 9600 SE and thus is not interesting for current DX9 games.
The only interesting and future-orientated part in that system is the AMD 64bit cpu if Windows XP 64 is coming in summer 2005 or if you want to use Linux 64 today. |

AMD processors are quite reliable. And that seems quite a good price for everything. Whether or not that particular dealer is good, or bad, that I would look into. As to the graphics card, it is on the low end for DX9, so look at perhaps getting a different card for that system.

Check out an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro.
Probably the best bang for the buck right now ... IMHO.
I got one myself less than six months ago along with a new system, and its a great card ... and you probably won't need the newest more expensive generation of video cards unless you want to have the resolution set at more than 1024x768 and have to have the AA and AF cranked. DX9 and pixel shader 2. |
