Hi, TLAM.
I never found that with SC...
maybe I was always close enough?
Anyway, I suppose this thread can die until the game is
released ... |

I think it happens when you do not have your ESM mast up during the full length of the radar emission.

SC had some serious sonar crew troubles , often they failed to recocgnize a 1 nm far tanker or even closer oiler therefoe I hope DW could allow ar least 2/3 levels of auto crew skill f.i. from unmanned trough manned to expert but for the sake of god please dismiss SC sonar crew and give it a very long rest ( in peace ) .

One thing I occasionally wanted in narrowband, was the ability to 'mark' what/where/which lines were to be used for the classification filter.
Think the classification line being split in two - in the uppder, the player clicked to denote "a narrowband line exists at this frequency for this platform i'm trying to classify". In the lower half, the currently chosen profile appeared.
Though country/class would be appreciated too. |

SA already placed that in the form of the scanning thru the platforms. If that is considered too much work...you need a different game. |

Not 100%, no.
Just going by the public domain info I was able to find
about the AN/WLR-8 receiver. I was using resources like:
http://www.rdsi.com/
https://ewhdbks.mugu.navy.mil/contents.htm
Maybe the output from these receivers is fed into an integrated
combat system with databases of electronic signatures... but if
so it's classified enough that causal googling didn't turn up
anything... |
The original WLR-8 just gave you the metrics you had to look up the platform matches in a book called the RADCHEE. Some mods added auto ident. The ass kicking system is the WLQ-4 also known as Sea Nymph, but perhaps I've said to much. |

The Sovermenny and Udaloy has the Same Surface search and Firec Ctrol Radars. (Sov dosn't hav the Cross Sword FC Radar tho) |
Most Soviet radars are crystal controlled and can therefore be classified beyond a simple ship class. |

In fact all SC's subs haven't been touched, I hoped for better sonar classification too, can be very tiresome with loads of ships as in SCX. |
Better sonar classification? Do you rely on auto crew sonar? If you do, that is your first mistake. When playing Sub Command, the first station that you need to master is SONAR. |
Ohohh who let all the sonarmen in? The only time you never see them is field day! |

As long as all surface combatants have a common TPK, then
I agree with you of course. I didn't know if Sonalysts would
vary the TPK for surface combatants in DW, to make life more
interesting...

Well, I think Sonalyst didn't used the same TPK for warship because it will be easier, but because it is true like that.
I'm not sure of it, but I don't see why they would have made false one on warship and different ones on other ships ...
So I think it's real value |
I can assure you they are not all the same IRL. |

From what I have heard (from reliable sources) when you sonar guys weren't in the rack you could be found in the shower.
But I could have been misinformed!

I knew of some of my fellow sonarmen that were that way. However, I loved my job so much that when I wasn't studying the boat, I was studying our little red books. |

do you have examples of warship with TPK different from 8 ?
I don't see why Sonalyst could have insert false input there
I see no reason for that, so, what is your sources ? |

I no longer have access to the intel, however I can recount numerous occasions while serving as a plot coordinator during many months of tracking ops, having the OOD or CO badger sonar about what the TPK for this contact, or that contact was. This is while all contacts are of soviet military persuasion. Also this was 15 years ago, but I would be amazed to hear it has changed. |
