I just bought a athlon 64, and Rome runs great on it.

Yes, there is also a demo available (for the people who missed it), it's 220MB big and you can get it here:

BI looks really great, it's got some nice features I think, and of course you get to play the Huns! |

Has anybody DLed and tried the ROME, Total War Realism Mod
6.0 yet? It needs patch 1.2 to work properly the docs say.
But I still can't get it to load correctly. The campaign icon to
click on to start is greyed out and won't work....
Later Edit: Ok, I found you have to hit the "Enter" key,not use the
mouse to start that mod. It looks very good, different from the orginal game....

THe battles are by far better in RTW, but I just don't enjoy the campaigns the way I did in MTW. Once you get a sizeable empire, there's too much micro managing in RTW. And I really hate being told to kill myself by the Senate. |

I'm still considering whether to buy RTW, as I had many issues with MTW which I'm not sure were resolved in RTW.
1) In the campiagn game it seemed to take a while to accomplish anything meaningful (production) Seemed to be a whole lot of boredom before anything happened...
2) Shoddy AI, I never had any issues flanking a superior AI force with my cavalry while hitting them hard in the center with my main group.
3) Siege AI, was pretty shoddy as well, just get the main gate and the house of cards fall apart...
On the postive side there was many great mods for MTW, I just need some extra push to get me back to it. |

I got it last year at Christmas.
Tis excellent. I like modding the game so the Julii are the only Romans and forcing the civil war by trying to assassinate senators.
I lost 10s of thousands of men to those damn Praetorians. |
