Me too, I love this game. I take it on my laptop on business trip, the right game for boring evenings in the hotel |

The battle maps are great and very entertaining but the campaign
part of RTW is not up to par of the older MTW. It limits you to just
3 Roman factions and taking orders from the senate leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I liked the total control of each empire in MTW better....

I believe once you completed it one of the roman factions you can replay it as any faction. I've also heard mention that there is a mod that unlocks/allows you to play them all from the word go |

It brilliant, isn't it? Seiges as great. Senatorial ranks are great. the battles are so, so cinematic I keep having to stop myself watching it and go and fight instead!
I especially love the feature where, once you have taken a city, you can go and explore it any time you want and watch the population go about it's business.
This is the game I always secretly wanted Civ 3 to be.
I like the Senate thing and like to way you have to watch yourself from time to time. In fact, if there was two things in the game game I would love to see one would be even more detail to the roman politics side of it ( Imagine being granted dictatorships or joining houses with two other factions to form a triumvirate before things slide into civil war.
The other thing I would like to see if maybe two more Roman factions, One of them being the House of Claudius - a very important family indeed and the power and growth of any one independant house being toned down slightly in order to make it that little bit more important to work with the other factions and build yourself up.
I also love being able to choose an heir. thats a very welcome addition. |

Kaleum, do you know where I can find that mod that unlocks all the
other empires to play. I hate the Roman side and just refuse to play
it while the dumb senate wants to give out stupid orders...

This game is SUPERB. If you like strategy, wargames and the roman and classic periods then this is a definite MUST HAVE. |

Just check the official site (www.totalwar.com), patch v1.1 is out - it addresses mainly multiplayer issues but more importantly some stability/crashing issues.

I have been playing one faction for about a week now and after losing
a few battles at first, got the hang of it and now I win all the time.
Not too hard to figure out how, I just use only mounted units outside
the cities (about 6). When my enemies attack the cities, I attack them
and between me and the AI units from the cities, get them in a crossfire
and tear them to shreds. If a very large enemy army catches me on the
open countryside, my mounted units simply run away & do not fight them.
I have not lost any of the last 15 battles that way. All the while I have
been building my attacking forces and will go on the offensive very shortly taking the enemy cities. BTW, I have 3 enemys and no allies.
I don't like the way the game handles naval battles so I just stay away
from them. If I could control the navy more (like the army) I would use
them alot more.

Well you have been lucky to have played normally because i've tried to play over the last 2 weeks but since there the game is too buggy, i finally gave up until they give us a patch that will solve all the CTDs bugs (crash to desktop), meanwhile i'm back on Medieval Total War and playing some SH2 and PA as well. Waiting for Sid Meir's Pirates! next month too!! |

It's been rock solid for me - no CTD's whatsoever. Mind you I did have to reinstall it after trying to use the realism mod as it would not even start (which was really annoying as I followed the instructions to the letter.
I've been doing a wee bit of modding on my own though. Little things like making first cohorts available to build which are easy as pie to do.
I'd love to find the file where the Marius reforms trigger is stored as I've got a couple of ideas about that one too i'd like to try out. |
