I really really do but I love it. Can anyone help me out with German surface mission 8 where you have to escort two U-boats and sink three RNE destroyers then circle back and sink a sub while the entire RNE air force is gunning for you?

I'm to proud to use any form of cheat code but I'm stuck here. I've tried putting myself between the U-boats and the destroyers so I can absorb damage but by the time the destroyers are sunk the Z boat's to slow to get the inbound sub. I haven't dared tried the game on a harder setting as I just got it but it's been a few days now to no avail. Anyone have any tricks or tactical suggestions I might be over looking? Any help is absoloutley appreciated.

Sometimes I read a message like this and cant help wondering, where is the cheat code for making car payments, house payments, and supporting the wife and kids? Without having to go to jail that is.. lol

This is a simulation of a sort, where art imitates life... computer programming as an art form to entertain the question of "HOW WOULD SERVICE IN THE NAVY BE IF I WAS IN COMMAND?" Now really.. there is no cheat code, but there are ways you can use to skip any or all missions..

If you are serious about giving up, throwing in the towel, and declaring to the world that this game is smarter than you, and you have no idea on how to use your equipment to defeat the enemy.. first you could try to read any articles you find on the internet or in a library about war and strategy, how to manuever, evade, outsmart, and outwit the opponent. Since this game is based on real life naval warfare, there is the possibility of using some real life and death decision making skills in this game without having to pay the ultimate price.

But if that is not an option for you, there are some threads in this forum that describe how to unlock the battleships without completing the missions.. (secrets you could be PROUD to use) that same knowledge will allow you to skip a mission (but not use the BB in the mission, only the tactical patrols later on). Just search the forum for all posts which contain references to the topic of skipping.. ok skipper?

Also.. since it is a game, and not real life, you can reverse engineer the mission and learn from watching the enemy many times by restarting the mission, use a stopwatch, avoiding all contact, and waiting to see how long you are allowed before the mission timer expires. Use that knowledge to plan a more cautious attack if time allows on that particular mission. Try to engage only one enemy while staying out of reach of all others, and divide and conquer. Some missions require you to get right into the middle of everything fast, so be prepared to use the "TOOLS" on the map screen to order your allies around - By directing your allies to move away from the battle, or INTO the battle depending whether they are cargo ships or destroyers, you can gain more time in some cases. After you order your AA gunners to target a plane, order them to target each incoming plane after the first one flies out of reach, dont allow them to track something and waste time not shooting..

to summarize:
Learn your ship, and know what angles your guns CANNOT aim.. front or rear guns make a DIFFERENCE
Know your enemy, and learn what angles their guns CANNOT aim..
Be an expert in firing torps at different ranges (even a miss can confuse the enemy and cause him to alter course changing his angles..)
Try to put more holes in the enemy ship than they put in yours..
Dont let two of them shoot at you at once - keep the odds in your favor..
Sometimes retreating is just advancing in the other driection..
Put your convoy on a new path to dodge or run from the enemy..dont blindly accept the built in waypoints..
Take the time to shoot the planes or other ships yourself.. you will need the skills later on..
Dont like the weather? change it by restarting the mission, waves help you dodge, smooth water helps you aim..

After much trial and error I beat the German surface campaign. Mission 9 has been by the the most difficult encounter I've come across. I come from a long lineage of infantry grunts and we don't deal with these boat things to often. Tacticly Enigma has really been teaching me things about the Navy I thought I'd never learn. I thank you for your advice and look forward to completing the game, but as far as real life goes I think I'll stick to trenches and machine guns. Thanks once again, I'm sure I'll be whining about another mission down the road very shortly.

HEHE.....I JUST picked up the game yesterday.....still getting used to it. Been lost in a couple missions where you are supposed to sink all the ships in the area. Sink all I see but game continues on. Is there a bigger map where I can see where I need to steer to? I understand the small and big tactical map. But if they're not on there....then what??

then they are not there Razz hehe if you dont have any 'blips' on the tact'screens or neither sides of the tacts is marked red there isnt any ships left.
If there is a submerged sub in a mission, you will be notified about it "Subnerged Sub detected to the North" like that.

If you have beaten everything and you still dont get a "Victory" msg, its likely that you havent complted the orders. on some missions you have to sail to XYZ location.

Or maybe you just accidently said "YES" to continiue playing? (confirm that with the ESC key and return to port, if the mission was failed you missed something, if it was a success you accidently said "YES" to continiue playing.

Smile

The mission I'm stuck on is the german surface mission where you defend yourself from the US PT boats on your way to somewhere (I forget). I believe I manage to sink them all but have no clue where to sail to afterwards as there is no coordinates for me to refer to.

BTW...on the tactical map, what 's the red areas that show up there from time to time? I tried sailing towards them but they disappear after a while.
