Currently, there are five US submarine models in Pacific Aces: P, T, and Sargo class, Gato and Balao.

The P, T, and Sargo-class models of US submarines are based on the SH2 stock models of Perch and Tambor. However, these stock models were significantly reworked and remodelled.

- All the parts required for animations, such as scope, rudder, diving planes, screws, and cavitation bubbles were either newly incorporated or modified so that all the animations can be observed whenever appropriate. You will see two periscopes coming up or going down when you hit the corresponding keys on the keyboard.

- The conning tower of P class was entirely redesigned so that it is impossible to recognize the stock version in the model.

- At the same time, a new bridge was introduced for T and Sargo class and the observation point on the bridge (F9 view) was ajusted.

- New periscope bases were made for all the three subs to produce closer resemblence with the corresponding US submarine models of WW2. They give a characteristic look to T and Sargo class, recognizable from a large distance.

- The TBT/UZo stations were incorporated and the corresponding views were adjusted.

- The subamrines have high-resolution and highly-detailed deck and US AA guns.

- The sub wake was greatly improved so that you will now be able to see the bow wave as in the U boats wake mod.

- Other eye candy, such as hatches, wires, flags were also introduced.

- The submarines carry new repaints done mostly by Horsa.

- For this purpose, the new texture plates placed in the external files were made.

Here are some impressions of the available subs in PA.

The Gato and Balao class are completely new models for SHII, they are based on a basic Balao class model from the huge Viewpoint model collection.
(Viewpoint supplies the multimedia industry over years with 3D models for film and broadcast productions).

The basic model were remodeled in parts and extremely reduced in details and polycount to make it also playable on slower PC's and prevent the mod to reach several hundred MB of size, but yet both models are twice as high in polycount as the standard SHII models.

What, no S boats?!?! Just joking, guys. I know, nobody around here leaves anything alone for long, and everything anybody could imagine will be along sooner than we think. My only real complaint about all this is that I don't know how to add to it myself. And that I have to keep wiping the drool off my keyboard!

Really I think I am going to have to get me the mod.

So I'm assuming that to have done this amount of work you hade access to the code. And I am meaning legitimate access which considering what Neal did with Project Meserwetzerwhatever can't remember the proper name that ubi-soft are quite happy.

Oh not questioning intentions here just my assumptions.

So will this be updated in future months, ie new ship models etc?, hint hint....

All this has been done without an access to the source code.

If we had access to the code, you could smell the Pacific and the fresh red lead of the subs in this mod. Laughing

Folks,

If you have done this without access to the source code then my admiration for you knows no bounds.....

Maybe you gentelmen could turn your attention to doing the same 'makeover' to the original SH2 game??? (i.e U-Boats!!!!!).
Based on what you have done to SH2 i'm sure you have learned a huge amount about the 'ins and outs' of the game and maybe a mod a la Pacific Aces for the tonnage war might not be too big a hurdle???????

Living in hope

Sniper_1

P.S After seeing that SH3 is on the way i gave up hope on SH2, now i think it does not matter if SH3 is a dog or not, this community has proven it can turn 'swine into pearls', as it where. Even if SH3 is crap we can still tinker with SH2 (or SH3 for that matter) and turn it into what we really want. BTW i think we should cut out the games developers alltogther and 'go it alone' to develop the SubSim WE all really want!!!

Wow guys, my hats off to you. No access to the source code and you have created essentially an addon pack.

In fact you have in some ways done more than we at SCX managed to do for SC.

Really it is an amazing effort and I look forward to buying the mod.

If you need a model or two making please give me a shout.

What prog were the models made with?

for the new models:
- 3DMax5/6 for modelling
- Multigen-Creator to create the realtime 3D database for the JANUS game engine

for the existing US sub models:
- editing was made by hex-edit Yep because the internal SHII model format cannot be so far converted in an usable 3D format

and naturally the additional tools such as Photoshop, UVW unwrapper,...

So far, most of Japanese ship models come from Destroyer Command, including carriers. There are at hand high-resolution and highly-detailed models of the carrier and the sub which can in principle be imported to the mod but the use of many models with high poly counts can bring down the framerate.

However, there will be an option to use DC models with nice new repaints which have been done by now.

There are no new carrier models as such . ( unless you count DC as "new") but they have been given new more detailed skins.

More screenshots on the SUB STATIONS thread.
