Many people have mentioned the need for much improved AI, meaning that past AIs have been too easy. I would like to know if this is an example of that:

I have many, many times torpedoed a destroyer chasing me by, fleeing from him in a straight line, keeping my periscope above water so we can both see what's going on, and then when he comes within 1000 yards, using a rear torpedo tube to put one straight down his throat. Rarely have I missed.

Is this reality? Wouldn't the destoyer weave to avoid being targeted in a straight line like this?

Thanks.

Yes...that's one example.

Poor AI...stoopid AI Joking same thing.

Like in SHII MP when one sub is detected and targeted by the AI ships, the other can surface freely and sail in plain sight (even ram if you want) the other ships. Free turkey shoot for the others as the AI is locked on one uboat.

Loads of times i have 3 escorts chase me on the surface and not fire at me even as one of them passes down my starboard flank about 20 yards away. I usually hose the 3 escorts with AA fire from 2000 yards in and several times have disabled all 3 escorts with this tactic. They don't reply with gunfire unless they pass ahead of you and then for some reason you then come forward of their beam. Very strange behaviour indeed....

You torpedo two merchants. While you're hiding, reloading, looking for an opportunity, do they sail away at 10 knots? NO NO NO, instead they slow down to 2 knots and mill around in circles until you sink more of them! Of course while they're doing this they are also busy ramming each other, as well as any escorts who get to close.

Dont forget when the ai destroyers become super ai, open fire at max gun range in the middle of the night well before radar even existed, can find you no matter what you do when submerged, and will drop depth charges right on your head if they dont ram each other.

Also flying battleships, and every ship in sight of land going to it and beaching themselves if they havent gotten hopelessly tangled on each other (ive seen 4 or more cargo ships and a destroyer or 2 in a tight little ram ball a couple of times)

Oh yes... exactly. Definitely the worst thing in SH2 is/was merchant ship AI.

DD AI wasn't all that great either, but it was "compensated" by giving the DDs incredibly accurate DCs, fantastic observers etc. (also unrealistic).

O.

There was no AI in SH2. Destroyers always know where you are. The "silent running" buttom is without any function. Once I had her at 230 meters near crash depth, all engines stopped, not being detected yet. First attack by one destroyer, first round of depth charges, watched them exploding on my deck...

Cheers, AS

Oh, I'm very familiar with this one, even post patch. Surface at night, slip into the flank of a convoy and have shells range my boat in less than half a dozen shots. Sure managed to submerge the boat quick-too bad she couldn't surface though.[/quote]
