wow new sh3,

i would like to see loads of eye candy,

1=able to see water droplets in glass periscope ,when looking through scope,

2=when diving see water droplets inside hull drips from pipes
etc maybe even see leaks from pipes and command crew to fix them

3= fire and flames inside hull smoke every where ,even command
crew to fire fight with water hoses ,

4=when on tower at night ability to have large spot light to signal
to other friends and look in dark with it the real u boats used them,
lights up area

5=dont know if the real uboats had port starboard lights?,
maybe see them

6=under water out side view should be cold and very dark looking,
also air bubbles from screws and hull underwater, like rising tide

7= the dd destroyers should have night search lights scanning water and signalling to .

8= abiltiy to have free cam view in game watch action anywhere

9= abandon ship mode multi or single if in time see the crews
run on deck get boats and off uboat,

10= watch crews run around crazy when its action stations ,
deck gun aa guns etc

just some ideas

Worry about the dynamic campaign and AI first, eye candy second.

Agreed with Glazier IMHO. The SH series unfortunatly goes SHI > SHII in terms of gameplay.

Also Capthelm, U-Boats did have standard Red/Green Nav lights. They just weren't used during a war patrol, as they give your position away to anyone, you want to be emitting no light at all under war conditions.

Indeed for me eye/ear candy comes second to realism, immersion, replayability and fun.

Take PotC for example, lots of eye candy, sucky game play, sucky game, and its collecting dust.

Oh ya couple of realism things with your suggestion Smile

Quote:
1=able to see water droplets in glass periscope ,when looking through scope,

Cool, and pretty easy to do

Quote:
2=when diving see water droplets inside hull drips from pipes

Might be tricky to do

Quote:
3= fire and flames inside hull smoke every where ,even command

tricky, fires generaly didnt happen to much, and tended to be small, also im pretty sure they didnt use water for fires since they would amost certainly be electrical, plus no hoses, they used chem extinguishers i belive (water in hull = bad)

Quote:

They generaly did not use spotlights, the did use signal lights but they were as tight beamed as possible and shuttered. Could be cool assuming they give us something to signal to.

Quote:
5=dont know if the real uboats had port starboard lights?,

I dont remember ever seeing one lit up, you could string lights along the bow-stern cables, but you would never use them as you dont want to be seen generaly.

Quote:

That should be easy to do, though during day time the water shouldnt be very dark, u boats cant dive deep enough to get out of the light. also a fully trimed submerged sub would not give off any air bubbles, and the screw would only when cavitating (which happened pretty easily on a u boat due to the screw design)

Quote:
7= the dd destroyers should have night search lights scanning water and signalling to .

Dont belive they used that, specialy vs a stalking sub, 1 because search lights would blind the spotters, and 2 it screams im here to a stalking sub

Quote:
8= abiltiy to have free cam view in game watch action anywhere

Can pretty much garantee the game will have that Smile

Quote:
9= abandon ship mode multi or single if in time see the crews

Might be to hard on the graphics engine to pull off, big ships and troop ships have a heck of alot of ppl on board.

Quote:

Would love to see that, we shall see Smile

I bet that the team see everything that is discussed here. I also bet that many of the eye candy stuff that are discussed here and maybe others that we don't think at this moment are considered by the team... we talk about an Eastern Team... and Eastern Teams provided some pretty results in the last time... Let's hope that SHIII will be one of them.

Yes, water = bad. Keep the blue wobbly stuff on the outside.

I own the dvd to that, and i dont recall it having a search light, could easily check though. Killer movie but not 100% realistic (bout as close as a movie has gotten though)

In Das Boot exist search lights and I personally think that is an interesting thing in that movie.

I think is a belivebal thing. If someone is worried about that the searchlight will "say" to the stalker sub that the DD is there then how we should treat the star shells that where launched when a sub was detected in the area durring night?

I don't think a search light is a bad thing to appear in the nev Silent Hunter. I personally don't have any complain about this... i think is quite an interesting feature.

1) Signal lights and spot lights are too VERY different things.

2) A searchlight would be quite counter-productive. There's very little light at sea at night ; it'd render everyone on deck basically blind to everything beyond the search beam. There's a reason people rig for red.

DDs - and perharps some U-Boats - had searchlights. Most ships do - I believe they are required to have one, currently, or at least strongly advised to.

It's just not a good idea to use them, unless you're picking up survivors, looking for a particular navigational aid, or trying to wake up a very negligent bridge crew.

Quite right; a searchlight is a valuable tool, and a dangerous toy. There are several instances of searchlights being used, by Japanese destroyers against US PT-boats, and escorts against U-boats. There are also instances of Destroyers accidentally lighting up cruisers (OOPS!) and one ship using a searchlight only to find several enemy ships suddenly having a good aim point.

I wouldn't use it except to pick up survivors; on the other hand, it might be fun to play with. Seems to me it's just more candy, taking up memory that could be better used elswhere.

Search lights were an effective part of ASW and I hope they are included in SHIII. Here is just one example.
