Well, given the amount of traffic my other thread got, I thought I'd throw up a survey and see what gives.

Please, NO DISCUSSION IN THIS THREAD. Simply post in the following format:
yes/no to squeal
make of video card
brand of video chip
model of video card

For example, see my next post for my results.

And please, no useless posts like "I couldn't hear it over my system fans if it did". That's not a "no", it could be squealing to death in your system and seconds away from frying - not knowing doesn't mean it's not happening. Only post a definite 'no' if you run a VERY quiet system, sit fairly close to it (IE., not in the closet on the other end of the room) and can tell for sure if it had any unusual noise to it or not.

A definite 'yes' should be easier to arrange, but please verify that it's not anything else in your system. Sub Command (if you have it) is a great way to test this - SC does not make video cards squeal, DW does.

I dont want to go into a long story but I will say I had big problems with a ATI 9800XT I got about 2 years ago. Replaced it twice under the warrenty. I had the squeal you speak of all 3 times. I say 3 because the last time it was out of warrenty and did not get replaced. I belive the problem is with the fan on the ATI's. They crap out, and that is the squeal. And after awile the card over heats and PUFF! The last time it only blew out wile playing BF2. Ran DW no prob. But I never plyed DW at high res and I hardly ever look at the 3d image.
