I do.....
Silent Hunter !
When this game first came out it had nearly all the right qualities and this made SH the Subsim to have above any other. It made its name and became popular even with gamers who were not naval game orientated like myself !
The graphics and gameplay was limited but only due to slow CPU and RAM spec of the time. I had a pentium 100Mhz, 4x Speed CD-ROM, 1gig HDD and 16 meg of RAM back in 96 !
With todays high spec PC's the idea to return to the Pacific theatre with USN vs IJN role is a very good move by the Production/Dev team, and I am certain that it will become a BIG seller.
Sinking a Japanese aircraft carrier for example leaves one with a sense of gaming satisafaction hardly equalled by any other game. \
With hunting grounds like the Java Sea, Sulu Sea, China Sea, Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Solomon Islands, Truk Atoll, Marshall and Gilberts islands and not forgetting Japanese waters etc SHIV will offer a wide and varied field of combat to the descerning submariner.
Because Japan is basically a lot of islands surrounded by open sea they rellied very heavily upon maritime activity for their survival by import and export of guns, munitions, food, men, material equipment etc and henceforth possessed a large Imperial Navy and merchant shipping fleet.
Japan was severly crippled by the USN SubComPAc fleet during the later stages of the war in that they were starved of all of aforementioned supplies via the excellent patrolling USN Submarines, their stalwart crew and expertise that jubilantly sent most of the Japanese shipping to the bottom of the oggin.
To be able to re-enact some of these most historic maritme WWII moments again but this time with superb graphics, sound and gameplay will be something that original SH gamers should look forward to. :sunny:
Heres to SHIV and a Gato or Baleo class sub to do the business in..yehaaaw |

I had that game, I enjoyed it but was annoyed at the how easy the escorts seemed o be able to find me, and worse how easy my sub was damaged. But on the othe side of the coin, I put 4 eels in to the Kongo, then shelled her from a way off (at night of course) and ended up sinking her, got the medal of honour for it. |

Great summary, RedTerex. Maybe you can do the first SH4 preview when I get a beta copy? |

Silent Hunter just seemed to be an updated version of Silent Service to me. Silent Service is the game that really set the standard.
They had the exact same feature set.
I played Silent Service on my Peanut (IBM PCjr 128K ram).
9 Torpedoes to sink the Yamato. |
