Really'd like to see a new skimming Navy companion to go with SH III or the upcoming IV. Or how about an airdale paired game where one can be a Catalina / Privateer / Ventura / Condor driver out patrolling for SH III / IV U-Boats etc |

That was the best thing about SH2/DC, the human component. Fighting AI enemy gets repetitive, playing real people keeps it interesting. |

Played a lot of SH2 with the DC option in multiplay.
It was a blast!
Had to break away from it because of the time involved.
Sometimes 2-3 hours for a battle.
For a period at the start I held the record for sinking U-Boats.
When I was in the Wolfpack league.
I ended up as an escort commander because everyone else wanted to pilot a U-Boat. |

SOmeone posted a mod for SH2 letting you play as french and american subs, and I sure hope SHIV doesn't put you in an american. The maximum depth was about 40m before it got to the "warning range". Which was only 10m The Critical depthe was much too shallow. \
However, I absolutley would enjoy DC2 with the same textures and models in SHIII. |

And, as with u-boats, occassionally a Gato-class skipper reported being forced to depths close to 1000 feet...and surviving.
Gato test depths were actually on the order of 100 meters, not 40, and those were 'test depths'. The boats were actually capable of much more. |

I believe the later Gato boats---the Tench class were cleared to a test depth: of 400 ft. (122 m) Just like with the U-Boats you could push it if neccessary. Of course, American subs never had to face the cutting edge saturation ASW the Germans did in the Atlantic so 122 meters was pretty good. |

40 meters? Were the American subs made out of fiberboard? Where the heck are you getting your information from? |

The Gato class which joined the fleet in 1942 had a test depth of 300 feet. The Balao class started appearing in 1943, it was an improved Gato with a thicker pressure hull and a test depth of 400 feet. The Tench class was an improved Balao, but with the same test depth, they started showing up in combat in 1945. US subs could go much deeper than test depth although not as deep as U-Boats. |
