For those of you living in the UK you might be interested to learn that Ghostboat is due to air on ITV1 at 9pm on Sunday 9 April. It's the first in a two-part drama set in the 1980s, starring David Jason as Jack Hardy, the sole survivor of a World War Two submarine disaster, who is astounded to learn his former vessel the Scorpion has resurfaced, miraculously intact. Recruited by Naval Intelligence to retrace the course and mission that led to her original disappearance, he soon finds himself fighting for his life.

The book's not bad either. I read it a little while ago, but the story revolves around a US boat not a British one. As far as I know it can only be bought second hand at the moment.

So what was peoples opinion of the series ?
I must admit, that I can't take David Jason seriously. I have expected him to turn to the the captain and say "you plonkler... now look what you've gone and done !!"
The plot was quite good.. and the pace just right, and nice to see somthing "british" on UK TV
It seemed strange though.. given the sub was supposedly posesed and had control over things (like surfacing at exactly 10 O'Clock), yet why did it allow Hardy to sabotage the torpedo tube wiring... Uhmm
Still, glad I didn't miss it |
