I've just found this section and I'm a total noob at tank sims but I've always been fascinated by them.
On Amazon there's two Panzer Elite games available, one appears older going back to the old days of early windows.
Then there's another one by a different developer for win xp
Is there a third called Panzer Elite Action byJowood that is due to release very shortly? I've been checking out their site and so far it looks pretty interesting.

I'd really like to try a WWII tank sim with up to date graphics similiar to or even better than SH3.

The upcoming new WWII tanksim you mean is probably this:

http://www.panzereliteaction.com/main.php

There was also an old simulation, maybe 5 or 6 years ago, called Panzer Elite, available as a Special Edition including various mods and all patches. Captain Kirk can tell you about that, so wait until his patrol pattern leads him to this place again. I wouldn't say that it's graphics are up-to-date, but they were quite good for the time when the sim was released:

If you want to try with that one despite it's age, contact the guys over here:

Nevertheless I would recommend to you to have a look at Steel Beasts Pro. It is modern era, but you won't find anything that is more hardcore tank simulation than that.

Skybird
Thanks for the quick responce. I have already been to the two links you first recommended-that's the one I was referring to-I guess its due out sometime in the near future. Unfortunately I'm one of those dinosaurs who are immersed in WWII action. the newer stuff just doesn't do it for me
so I guess I'll just sit tight and wait.

Okay, I said have a LOOK at SBP. If that is not good enough for you, then having a HEAR at it maybe would do the trick...? Laughing It's a true tank opera. Wink In fact, the sound is more impressive than the graphics, the the soundworld is fully immersive and dynamic (no fake or dummy sounds). Firing guns and incoming arty are pure bombast, a moving tanks makes you aware of those 60+ tons that it weighs.

Admitted, SBP is my personal hobby, so forgive that I am pushing you at it. Will not do it again Wink

Oh, and the WWII tank sim you want, I think I red somehwere that it does not come before winter, but I am not sure.

Hi Hemisent
The tank sim you are refferring to IE "Panzer Elite Action" is being released on or about the 22 23 march, i have it on preorder from gameplay in the uk.
It is a little arcade in style compared to the older "Panzer Elite" which is very hardcore tank sim but very good for it's day,but there is a downloadable demo avaliable, which i a have played, and it will fill a gap till something more "hardcore" comes along!! Very Happy

Hope this answer's your question
all the best
Pat

The first release of Panzer Elite is a out of the box game.
PE:SE*Special Edition* is a update with patch and a bunch of mods and a few game improvements. If you can get the SE..its the better of the two.
Also,a lot of the mods are no longer on the net.But I have them all.If you need them, email me and I can send them by disk or DSL.*56k would take a year as there big files.

Thanks guys, if the Panzer Elite Action version is due out late march I think Ill wait till then and check the reviews.
Never messed with a tank sim before but who knows, I might like it. In the meantime I'll head back to the sub pens.

I used to play it a lot but I got interested in other games (you know how that goes) but when I last checked the site at wingssimulations.com/panzerelite.html it no longer existed. How long has it been down? Whatever happened to those amazing Ost Front and Korea and West Front mods? Has everyone moved on as well? (Such a shame).

Best wishes,
GlowwormGuy

PE OstPak is still alive and the files are still available...

It's a bummer about the wingssimulation forum disappearing though. PE has to be my favourite game of all time...oh, besides SH3...and IL2 Complete Edition... Very Happy
