Hi
I need some advice with the following problems I've encountered:
I seem to have a big problem with broadband on the 688i (possibly others too - not checked). It lacks sensitivity. After several totally unsuccessful attempts at the "loiter" 688i mission, I turned on "show Truth" to see what was happening. I then saw that I was about 20nm away from three naval vessels which were underway at a noisy 20Kts, and yet nothing showed up on broadband. I was at 160m depth, doing 5kts and yet could see nothing on any of the broadband sensors.
Another problem concerned the "Liberian Liberation" mission. 95% of the torpedoes I drop into the water (to intercept the boghammer) seem to vanish off the map after a few seconds, quite inexplicably.
Anyone help? |

Err... you were at 160m or or feet? And was a layer present? Because if you were below the layer then it would be perfectly ok for you to NOT hear those ships.
As for the torpedos ... I can't recall the mission right off the bat ... are you flying a P-3 or Helo (you said dropped)? And if you do, how deep is the water? Because it might be that you just buried your torps in the mud, either by dropping them from to high or by using the wrong settings. |

Dropping torpedoes into shallow water (the most likely cause of your problem) requires correct procedure. Against the boghammer, you're better off firing a agm-65 (maverick) in the first place. |

Please, whenever asking about potentially anomalous detection ranges, state the acoustic conditions under which the observation was made. There are a great many situations under which no BB signal for noisy contacts would be detected at 20nm--perhaps even a majority of situations. |

Sorry - 160 feet (not 160m) depth. My mistake. Even at this depth, and even when targets only 10nm away, the tracks on the waterfall were very faint, and I couldn't get anything to come up on the Demon. Anyway - as long as I know it's not a problem with the patch, but rather with me (ie ignorance) it's answered my question. I'll test it again when I have time.
As for the torpedos, I was in the P3 in that mission and the water was most likely very shallow.
Thanks for the help. I'm an SHIII person really - but I've trying with DW again. |

Keep trying. DW gives you back everything you put into it! |

There are times when a trace is visible on the BB but it cannot be marked. This is a known bug in all versions of DW (probably a by-product of the fix of Sub Command's "clicking cheat"). You just have to go without DEMON for a few more nm, that's all. |
