Just awesome!
A dream come true...I'm quite speechless, so before I write more silly comments I'll read through all the excellent info given here.
Edit:
The Link to the Diary of a U-Boat Commander on your Imperial U-Flotilla 1914-1918 homepage doesn't work,
maybe you should use this link instead ? |

Thanks to point me at it. I already updated the link. They seem to have removed the online version of it. But in that link is the version with drawings.
Cheers,

Just looking at the feature list is wonderful! So many great ideas!
If all of them are realized I couldn't wish for more! (...well not at the moment... ; - )
The screenshots of the 3d models let me sit here with my mouth wide open, the ash of my cigarette falling onto my keyboard - just beautiful work!
I think my interest in ww 1 naval warfare was awakened when my grandfather gave the book "Unsere Marine im Weltkrieg"
1914-1918 as a present to me 15 years ago...I had my difficulties reading a book written in "Altdeutsch", but I was fascinated all the same...especially by the U-Boats.
(Damn, reminds me that a colleage of mine still has borrowed the book, I've gotta get it back soon and make some scans to post 'em here...) |

Hehe, well sayed. They are fare not finished they will look truly outstanding when i add all the remaining ditails left to add. It took me alot of research time and luck to get them to this state.
I will show you something that will throw you overboard

I need a 105mm gun and at least 300 rounds for it on the U31.
Seriously, I need one.
Imagine this, me on a patrol with my lovely U 31.
The countless days in the virtual academy are behind me, into glory I sail.
(I've wrecked the U 1 a thousand times by mindless playing with all the controls during my academy days.
My speciality was the sinking of the boat by flushing the toilet in the wrong moment...)
We meet a few enemy steamers on hour way and I suck big time.
Four of our torpedoes miss their targets cause of my poor aiming...
We are forced to go down, destroyers are coming for us... They chase us. They beat the sh*t out of us.
I give the order to fire the last torpedo in the general direction of the attackers without any success (or sense).
The other remaining spare torpedo should be in tube 2, but it crashes down from overhead and smashes my left foot instead.
And in this situation our boat doesn't even have a 105mm gun, with which we could fire a few shots at the attackers before we go down in glory when they ram our boat, NO!
No, we just have two options left.
We shoot or beat each other to death out of pure frustration with the 08/15s and the two officer revolvers, so that the Brits can tow the boat to one of their bases...
Or we wait at the bottom til the oxygen runs out or we are poisened by all the strange fumes inside the boat...so that the Brits can tow the boat to one of their bases...
Really there are no other options.
No way. They can't have this boat. We have to go down in glory. We need a 105mm gun. Seriously.
...And we need AI sailing ships in the sim...don't know why but we need 'em!
BTW... Yea, I think I like hardcore sims. And I think I'll love this one. |

Do you seriously believe you will get with this poor shooting through the academy ?

Well, historicaly U31 had no deckguns but only because it got lost so early in the war. Would it have survived than it would have been upgraded with deckguns. So will it be in IUF.

Of course there will be sailing ships.

Just want to chime in say that what you are planning really has the foundation to become an excellent simulation. I really wish more sims of this caliber were in development. good work and good luck!
Oh and excellent articles on your site, very interesting read on the design of the U1 and its flaws.
Cheers, |
