... after all that back and forth with lightmapping, shaders, materials, etc... i've found that most of the systems (that i can afford right now) are still a lil problematic as far as using shaders...

it seems like i've wasted a lot of time... i'm seriously considering returning to the basics and finishing off the sim as it was (some changes) three months ago...

here are some test shots with just 3DRAD lighting... nothing else... even the lightmapping was taken out of the code...

now i know that this is in no way on a par with the latest and the greatest from the big development houses with naval sims on their calendar, and far from the DOOM3 like graphics that has been haunting me ever since i saw the thing...

... but if it is good enough for the skippers here... i'm gonna proceed as is.

In The Conning Tower

Rigged For Red - looking aft, scope and crew removed

Emergency Lighting - looking fwd, scope, crew, helm removed

Rig For White - looking aft, scopes, crew removed

i feel as if i've gone around the world and have come right back to where i started...

well... at least i learned a few things along the way...

Mike what you got there is already outstanding! I would proudly take a submarine looking like that in to battle even against SHIII and DW. Yep

.... now I'm wondering how I can make my S Boat interior top that, I'm hoping the hanging sausages and sloshing coffee put it over the top... Razz

Hmmmm speaking of that, will your game be modable at all like VS?

Its very good, Mike!

I would instantly buy it as it is now. Don't be obssesed with perfection, as we can later progressively enjoy patches and second parts, benefiting from the hardware progress Thumbs Up

Give us the good gameplay we love, and let the graphics be secondary. Hell, I'm still playing SH1 because of the gameplay nowadays!! Laughing

Mike,

Good to hear from you, was starting to think that we would never see your sim! If you want my 2 cents worth, its this quote "perfect is the enemy of just good enough". This was a qoute from Admiral Sergi Gorshovkov, and it means that so long as something is good enough its ok that its not perfect. I'd rather have a game that is good NOW rather than a perfect game NEVER.

Hay Mike did you see the floor plan of a WWII conning tower here:
http://www.navsource.org/archives/08/08315.htm
Its on the Balao USS Sealion (SS-315) at navsource.org, it shows a few things diffrent from yours. Just a little extra info you might have missed.

Thanks TLAM... yeah, this site is a wealth of photo info, and although i've been all over it, i did miss this one...

some of my stuff is positioned differently than the actual floor layout dipicted... but i think that in general i've captured the 'feel' of the attack center of a WWII Fleet Sub...

but there is one big mistake i made...

from everything i've seen previously, i always thought that the hatch leading up from control was on the right (starboard) side, center area of the attack center, and not from the forward left side...

hmmmmmm... that's gotta be changed, for sure.

hey, thx again for the info...

if you run up on any floor plans or layouts for subs such as the Tang class, Skate, Nautilus, GWashington class, Russian November, Hotel, and Victor classes... please post em here...

I'd buy it. There's plenty of eye candy in those shots.

Treeburst155 out.

Hi Mike,
Thats great - don't stop now mate. I'd snap it up with current graphics if on market. I don't know how you blokes do it but I wish I had the skills to come up with something like this.
