"In feindlichen Tiefen" by Dirk Pohlmann (ZDF) is a dcoumentary about the secret mission of the US an USSR submarine during the cold war.

Can be seen on Arte the French/German TV the June 15 at 20h40 and the 17 a 15h30 (I can record it in MPEG2 for those interrested)

There is an interview of John Craven who say that the K129, the submarine sunk in the Pacific and retreive by the CIA, was in mission to lauch a nuclear missile to hawaii.

K129 did apparently turn rouge but with no survivors we shall never know but K129 wouldnt have been able to launch anyway because the codes for the missile are not on board
