Well I didn't want to take up any space in the DW forum, and most of you guys who know me are from here any ways. I recently placed second in an essay contest about the battle of the atlantic. And I'm off to Halifax for a reception on board HMCS Sackville. I'm just posting this to see if any one wants to host the pictures when I get back. I'll try to get some pictures of the other navy ships while I'm up there. Just let me who ever wants to host the pics. Cheers |

Well, I'm back. Had quite the time in Halifax. I've got a few pictures for you guys which I should have up by tomorow or so. I came within 15 feet of the 3 Victorias that are in the Atlantic, don't worry, I took a shot or two of them too. HMCS Sackville, the last Flower class Corvette, was quite an experience!! I got to sit in the ASDIC hut and I was give a personal tour of the ship. As part of my 2nd prize I was given the book "In Peril on the Sea" (The Royal Canadian Navy and the Battle of The Atlantic), one of the best books I've ever read on the subject. I talked to men who had been officers and enlisted men onboard corvettes, and men who had served in the Merchant marine, men who helped win the battle. Lunch was Corn chowder&Chili which was prepared onboard and was really good. You couldn't really tell unless you looked out the port hole, but the Sackville lived up to her reputation, as I was told by some of the men there, Corvettes would roll on wet grass, and the little ship was bobing ever so slightly. The Sackville will be open to the public this summer, and some time with in the next year will be dry-docked and have work done below the water line. I hope to be back in Halifax this summer, and I'll try to get more pictures then. Some of you Brits should make the trip down, you guys used the Flowers as much as we did, and unfortunatly the Sackville is the only one that still survives. I'll scan those pictures in as soon as they're developed!
