the cruel sea is bassed on a true story and is about "two ships and a handful of men" fighting in the small ships escorting convoys on the atlantic western approches and bearents sea.

Yes, I would rank The Cruel Sea as the British "Das Boot"
If you haven't seen it yet see it soon. The film really shows
what the Battle of the Atlantic was like from a Royal navy
surface perspective and the toll it takes on the officers and crew.

Another good, though less well known film from that period
is "San Demitrio, London" It tells the story of a tanker attacked by
a surface raider, she is set ablaze, in fear of explosion the crew
abandon her spend days in a life boat, almost dead they spot a
ship on the horizon but to their shock it is the drifting Demitrio
with nothing left to lose they reboard her. The film tells the true story of their attempt to bring the ship back to port against all odds.

Kenneth More is not in the Cruel Sea, the captain is played by Jack
Hawkins and the two supporting leads are Donald Sinden and
Denholm Elliot (Marcus Brody in Raiders of the Lost Ark)

Although Kenneth More is not in "The Cruel Sea" he is in the
great Britmovie "A Night To Remember " the only film worth
watching about the Titanic disaster.

Just purchased the "Cruel Sea" thru used section of Amazon.com for $5.00. Pretty good movie but have not been able to finish it. Not bad so far for $5.00.
