Great read. Really a wonderful insight of life a board a U-boat as a crew member.

My question is this ... the book really opened my eyes to the air threat situation the U-boats faced. I had no idea it was that intense.

How is this modeled in game? We gonna have to deal with a realistic number of air attacks?

The book made it clear that these air attacks were anything but rare. They also really took its toll on the morale and fatigue of the crew.

What a great book to read right before getting the game. This should really help in the immersion as I really feel like a got a good snap shot (if you'll pardon the expression) of what it must of been like.

I'm a bit disappointed no one is around to answer the questions I have, but that is the way it goes at this stage of the game I guess.

I really was surprised to read just how important the air threat was in this cat and mouse game. I'm wondering how well this will be modeled in the game.

It also makes me wonder how in debth the morale factor is gonna be and what are all the variables to improve morale.

On U 505 some of the ways morale was improved was with giving the crew a rotation onto the bridge. Rewards for jobs well done were sometimes as simple as an extra scoop of desert, a touch of rum in their coffee.

I had often heard how extended periods of time on the surface during ruff weather brought down morale, but didn't realise just how bad it was for extended periods of time under the water.

Good stuff this book.

Read Iron Coffins by Herbert Werner.
The May 43 Part is amazing and shows you how quickly the U-Boat turned round from March 43 when it looked like the U-Boats were going to win.

They were diving 10-15 times a day to avoid Planes especially in the Bay of Biscay.
Don't think this will be modelled in the game as it would kill the playability.

AOD certainly modelled the increase in air cover very well as the war progressed. The game even modelled your increased chance of being detected by aircraft if you ran flank due your more visible wake. Escorts and aircraft with radar later in the war also found you sooner. I will be surprised and disappointed if SH3 does not include all this.
