Apparently the Konvoi PQ-17 "film" is actually a mini-series
running over 400 minutes in length (longer than the longest
edition of Das Boot!) and it was dubbed into English and Japanese.

Can't find anywhere that sells it yet though (unless you want the
Japanese edition on 4 dvds), hopefully in time it will
be released on to UK/US DVD sometime soon.

Heres a quote from CastleStormer on the Russia.com forum
about the series

Quote:
If you have an international satellite dish, Dish Network
programming, or have access to the Russian television station
RTVi...they just ran a miniseries called "Konvoi PQ17".

It was absolutely outstanding!!! Done in English, German,
and Russian, it tells the story of WW2 U-boats from three different
perspectives. If they rerun it, I'll post here. Don't miss it!

Thanks Comrade Hunter301,

Ouch that's expensive, hopefully a subtitled version will arrive soon.
The shots we've seen of the Tirpitz and the subs in the film look very realistic.

I watched Konvoy PQ17 (all 8 movies). Disappointed. Typical Soviet era depiction of the WW2.
Russians are angels, Germans - murderous robots.
Between them cowardly British and greedy Americans.

When you really want an excellent Russian movie (series) on the WW2 (they call it The Great Patriotic War) - try 'Shtrafbat' (Penal Battalion)

Excellent movie.
Just excellent.

In my view it is one of the best if not simply the best movie on life of infantry men in the WW2. Very honest, very realistic, very convincing. In some respect more honest than Das Boot.
After the 'Shtrafbat' it should become clear why for the Soviets that was The Great Patriotic War.
Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
