Are the ships too dirty and too dark?

There seems to be something not quite right with the graphics in this sim. It almost looks as if someone took photos of the ships/boats and just transposed those images onto the ships. As a result the ships seem too dark and a bit too dirty. The ships seem somehow 'underexposed'. Also, they don't seem to reflect light like real ships do. Is this just me, or does anyone else feel the same way?
