There is vague mention of advancing a career and such but I'm hoping this doesn't get too convoluted as many games in alpha stage do and gets little priority.

Here's hoping the war patrols are more like the original SH (and others).
Yep

Hear Hear I second that!! I loved those career based games like SH, RSR, and Silent Service!! In SH 1 I had about 10 Carriers and 5 Battle Ships sunk in my log book, from the times I went out on my own littile harbor raids!

I hope they read our imput. I glad everyone else liked the SH1/Silent Service style patols than the mission based ones in SH2. I like leave'n port and drive'n my sub to the patrol zone myself. Smug

Yes, those patrols were different every time you went out, even if you followed the same route. It's really the best way to do it. Yep

Well with 19 posts and over 200 veiws of this fourm in its frist few hours of creation they would be fools not to. Concidering what the people on this fourm have done for sub sims out there, iqnoring such a huge resource would boggle the mind.

I liked both myself; SH1 patrols for the dynamic aspect when you just want to get away and get something new everytime and SH2 mission editing for those creative experts who design historical and what if missions. All should be in there. Random missions, scripted missions, scripted campaignes, and dynamic campaigns. All of this has been done in the past so it can be done.

I love the feeling of long patrools but a "jump in a fight" without a long journey til the mission grid can't be a bad ideea either. How about beeing face to face with a convoy and trying to take the best decission when escorts at high speed send pings...?

Im sure they could easily make a "instant action" mission generator, thats pretty easy to do.

Dont forget getting orders etc too, i would also love to have the option of using my enigma machine if i wished (or if i ever get a captains eyes only order)

Been There! Done That! Aces of the Deep and Command:Aces of
the Deep both had historical missions as well as "Convoy Encounter" and "Warship Encounter" options for those that like a
more action orientated approach. Settings ran the gamut from
dead easy night attacks to clear water day attacks with escorts and
air cover. And it has a dynamic campaign too! Yep
