Friends,
I'm thinking of doing a detailed control room simulation of a 637-class sub. I need high-fidelity photos (preferably drawings) of the Ballast Control Panel, Steering & Diving station, Sonar equipment, etc. showing more details than, for example,
http://www.ussdrum.org/steering-diving-0.html
Here's an example of the detail I need:
Unfortunately, the Smithsonian's "Fast Attacks & Boomers" exhibit closed in June, otherwise I'd pop on over to the American History Museum with my digital camera
I know that the Sub Museum in Groton has a set of 637 panels on display, maybe someone in the area could get some close-up photos?

ALL RIGHT!!!!
That's great news...
The Sturgeon Class has always been my favorite SSN... strong looking, big sail, clean lines... it just epitomizes what an undersea hunter killer should look like.
Now Bill is gonna bring it to life... great news indeed.
I don't know if this will help, but it is the only reference I have at the moment...
http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/icerun/ipix/
You can save the IPix from your browsers temp dir for future offline reference.
The IPix of the Control ROom gives a decent idea of the layout and some close in views .
I used this as a primary reference when making my 637 interior... I think that you will find it helpfull.

The exhibit in Washington DC is closed, but the Smithsonian does have a virtual exhibit on-line, see it here:

Some of those items from the exhibit in Washington DC came from my old boat the Trepang (SSN-674). Its great to see pictures of her, she was a good boat.

Yes. Those are the depth guages. They are considered classified because they would give some idea of how deep the sub might be able to go. |

Really?? My Yamaha has speedometer scaled to 180km/h, though it can only go 120-140. |

If your bike's speedometer were scaled 0-80, that would tell you something, wouldn't it. That it is scaled to 180 does give some indication of performance, even if not very precise.
Similarly, if the depth meter read 0-5000 feet, that would imply a capability different than if it read 0-1000 feet. |
